Smart Start Reader is a curriculum based online guide for reading comprehension. It is the result of professional educators and interactive designers working together to improve the learning experience while expanding the boundaries of the classroom using technology.

Smart Start Reader is an online environment for students to receive quality curriculum based instruction in the classroom or at home. With the Smart Start library of story guides, students in grades 3-5 can receive guided instruction while reading unabridged chapter books. As students read and interact with the program, they learn reading strategies, complete interactive activities, and create reading journals. SSR is an interactive learning environment where students can work independently and learn at their own pace.

Smart Start Reader acts as an automated assessment and lesson planning tool. While students follow guided reading instruction, SSR tracks their progress and summarizes data into easy to read graphic reports. These reports illustrate areas needing improvement, either by class or by individual. The design of the SSR reports help communicate student progress at parent conferences and help teachers with future lesson planning. When used in the classroom, SSR’s interactive instruction allows students to work independently, which allows the teacher to circulate among the students and work with students needing additional help.
